Alanis Morissette sang, with a fair amount of success, a song about irony. What has that got to do with the first post of this blog, which I hope can become a community forum for our little village?
Well, coming from a self proclaimed Heathen, I have made it my mission to raise funds to help out our Church which has been feeling the pinch financially in recent months. To me, this is by no means a religious crusade, but more a crusade of community. You cannot deny the glorious focal point the Church imposes on our village. With the ever gracious Vicar, Robert Fletcher, at the helm, as a community, regardless of faith, we should stand united and ensure the future of the Church remains a strong one.
The idea of holding a Christmas dinner INSIDE the church will hopefully allow a month or two breathing space on the purse strings. More so, it will hopefully raise the awareness within the extended community to the plight of the Church, and we can think of ideas to utilise the facilities which are on offer and spin some much needed regular revenue.
(Think using the room for toddler groups, Zamba classes, baby parties etc...)
So back to Christmas Dinner.
The date is Friday 2nd December @ 7:30pm which gives time to put the littletons to bed with babysitters for the night. Cost per person is £30. For your contribution, you will receive obligatory canapes, a full on roast turkey feast with all the trimmings and dessert. There will be a fish option for those averse to seasonal birds. A cash bar will be operating which will no doubt be less expensive than the social club without compromising quality. It goes without saying, that all proceeds will be going to the Church and I will post a spreadsheet of expenses along the way.
Numbers are limited to 60, bookings are first come first serve and can be made online through PayPal by clicking the link on the sidebar. If you have any specific dietary requirements or queries, please send an email to aldenhamresidents@gmail.com
Dress code, well, the Bridget Jones garden party did cross my mind, but it is perhaps a bit crass, so let's rather go with relaxed and comfortable, but feel free to glam up if you fancy it.
This is of course open to residents, friends and friends of friends.
Looking forward to feasting with you all soon!
